Well, Matthew is continuing to suffer from on and off abdominal pain and last week, he was out of school for 2 days while we tried to figure out why he was having fevers of 105 on Sunday and Monday. Ugh. No answers. The old advice: plenty of fluids and rest...wish we knew what was going on. Otherwise, when he does feel well, he''s been attending soccer on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is improving every time! Also, he is preparing for his first communion (April 15th for those who want to attend). It is a pretty exciting time for Matthew!
Kara is understanding more and more...her current words: "stinky," "DAAAAAA!" (Dad), "eeeesh" (please), "bye-bye," "hi," "poo-poo" (usually in with stinky), "Mmm!Mmm!Mmm!" (this means she wants something), "um" (yummy). She knows a coat means we are going somewhere and she gets really excited. She knows what "bath" means and what "change your pants" means. Blows my mind how they grow so fast and figure out so much. Oh yeah: she''s also discovered climbing (lucky me)...we find her on top of the coffee table and the couch a lot...and she''s LOVING the warmer weather. Wants outside all of the time.
Allie has discovered she can make some letters so has been taking every scrap of paper in our house and making letters. Even found the stamps the other day and proceeded to put them on an envelope! I found a "letter" in the mailbox yesterday...she has got that concept down well! Jealousy has taken root over her regarding Kara but we are working over that hurdle. And she''s finding her inner fashion diva...has been dressing herself in some of the most outrageous outfits lately! Ha! Never a dull moment with Allison.
Spring promise has brought a huge pull on my part to get outside to the garden. The nerd in me has pulled out paper and started mapping out how the garden will be laid out and Eric has been given strict instructions to follow it this time! Ha! Although the nights have not let us forget that winter is not quite over, there is that "spring" in the air and I''m already shopping for plants! Woo! Hoo!
Well, it''s been awhile since we''ve had an update so here goes: the bug that got Kara, Allison and I caught up with Eric and Matthew by the next weekend. Nausea with stuff coming out both ends (ugh)...not much fevers. Did find out that none of us had the flu, just some stomach bug. However the flu DID hit Matthew last Friday. He got sent home from school with a fever, had it all weekend, seemed better on Monday, but after another spike Tuesday morning and a trip to the doctor, he tested positive for influenza (I don''t know what type) and has been home all week ever since. The rest of us are fighting some sort of cold but nothing major. We are all really looking forward to getting over this stuff. ''Course we are keeping Lysol and Kleenex in business this year as well as pharmacies. Geesch.
More progress on the kitchen! Although we''ve been sidetracked by sickness, we have found some windows of opportunity and finished some things. Eric and his dad began laying the floor about 2 weeks ago and after his dad left, I helped finish it. We could have had it done in one day but we were 2 pieces SHORT!! So had to wait until the following Monday to go back to the store to get more flooring. All that''s left now is floor trim, trim around the doors and some minor painting. The bathroom still needs put back together (although Eric started putting in the new sink yesterday while he stayed home with Matthew). We missed Eric''s deadline of the first week of February, but we aren''t far from finishing.
Eric traveled to Nashville, TN last week to become a certified work place financial trainer for Financial Peace University (Dave Ramsey). He had a great time, got to meet Dave Ramsey, came home with some cool stuff and is ready to go convince corporate America they need him to train their employees! Ha! Don''t worry, we aren''t leaving GB...this is something he will do outside of work. It''s not quite lucrative enough to warrant doing it full-time, but it could help to pay off some more bills! Wish him luck! He was gone from last Tuesday evening until about 3 am Sunday morning. Came home to sick kids and brought home a cold himself...but was glad to finally be home.
We hope that everyone had a great Valentine''s Day and that all you grandparents and siblings of Mommy and Daddy got our Valentine cards! The kids were very proud of their signatures....
On a side note: didn''t want to forget that Grandma Donna''s birthday just recently passed. I think she''s up with all them church ladies in the sky making up one whopper of a church dinner for everyone! Ha! Happy Birthday, Grandma...we miss you.
The countertop is finally installed in the kitchen! I''ll get pictures taken and put on the website, but we may wait until more gets done. Oh, Eric also laid the floor in the hallway and bathroom and put up trim around the windows in the kitchen and 2 doors by the bathroom. Yea! The end is near! Eric''s goal is to be finished by next weekend (Feb. 2)...keep your fingers crossed!
The flu bug hit our home this past weekend. Kara got sick on Sunday, I got sick on Tuesday, Allison on Wednesday. So far, Matthew and Eric have managed to avoid getting sick...let''s hope they don''t get it! It''s no fun! What''s funny is that it was Kara and Allison who got their flu shots this year....hmmmmm.....
Got a lot of snow last weekend....almost 8 inches. It''s been really cold so it''s all slow to melt, but it has been fun for the kids. It was really pretty. I got some pictures that I''ll post soon, too. Looks like the dry spell is over. We''ll see what the lawn and flowers do in the spring! Ha!
Well, stay warm, enjoy the wet weather and we hope to see any one of you soon!
Had Matthew''s birthday party yesterday! We had a bowling party for him and all the boys in his 2nd grade class. The boys (and Allie) bowled for about an hour, made dry ice rootbeer, ate cake, helped Matthew open presents, played video games in the game room, and played a spontaneous game of nerf football. It was loud and chaotic, but everyone had fun!
Another surprise: Jason, Katie, and Hunter drove down from North Dakota and showed up on Saturday evening. They came to Matthew''s party and we spent the evening with them out at Grandma and Grandpa''s house last night. They are here until Thursday....
Kitchen update: we finally got to working on the kitchen again after the long holiday break we took. Most of the doors are now finished...just waiting for the paint to cure more before they get hung up. The paint job isn''t so great (Chris really doesn''t like the paint), but it looks OK and we may take some sandpaper to it to age it a bit. We''ll see. Put the new light fixture up and rumor has it, the counter top should go in this week (Eric is supposed to call). Once the counter top is in, we can finish painting the backsplash and paint the bottom cabinets. Then the window and door trim will go in and be painted, doors will probably get a new coat of paint, and finally the floor will be put in. Also, the bathroom sink will be installed the toilet put back in it''s proper place (instead of my front porch), and the cabinets in the bathroom will be repainted. A lot to do yet, but the end is beginning to become clear. We will keep you posted!
The last snowstorm moved out yesterday and once again, Great Bend seemed to have been missed for the most part. Most of what is on the ground is a small amount of snow and the left overs of the sleet that came down Saturday. It''s slick and FREEZING COLD, but it''s not bad. Should all be melted by Wednesday at least. Hate to say it, but we are disappointed we didn''t get more snow! Ha! Maybe next time....
Well, stay warm, enjoy this week and dream of warm weather!
We''ve had a busy holiday season. I came down with a cold before Christmas and here, 2 weeks later, I''ve now got to fight bronchitis. Fun. But it hasn''t stopped our visiting. The Myers family came up from Texas and we celebrated Christmas with them as well as Kaden''s 2nd birthday and New Year''s Eve with them. We had a great time and we were glad to be able to see them. Great Bend was missed by all of the major snow (twice in 2 weeks)....most of it went west of us both times. This second time, however, we did actually see some snow (about 2-3 inches). It drifted a bit with the big wind yesterday, but not terrible. Now we have bitter cold temperatures, but the sunshine makes it seem not so bad.
The kitchen took a back seat to the holidays. No work was done on it since before Christmas. We will get back to it this week. Hope to have it finished by February. I''m getting anxious to get the new countertop in. I''m ready to see the kitchen start coming together.
Some people to keep in your prayers: Great-Grandpa Neil got sick right before Christmas...he is better now, in rehab., and ready to come home, but he''s got a little more healing to do. Grandpa Dennis is going to battle cancer again. Pray that a solution can be found to get rid of it again.
We''ve had a blessed 2006 and we look forward to seeing what 2007 brings for us. It''s always good to start fresh and let''s hope that we can all do that and head in to 2007 with love and optimism. Happy New Year everyone! May God bless you this New Year''s Day!
Merry Christmas, Everyone!! We hope that you all had a Blessed weekend with your loved ones. We thank those of you who sent gifts! The kids and us enjoy them and hope that you received ours as well.
We were able to see some family this year. We stayed home instead of traveling (Eric was supposed to have worked--it got switched at the last minute). Grandma Nancy and Grandpa Dennis came to visit; We spent some time with Grandma Bev and Grandpa Dan; We also went to Gorham for the afternoon on Christmas Day to see the Haselhorst side of the family at Grandma Agedia''s house. We didn''t get to see the Arasmiths, Williams, Myers, or North Dakota Haselhorsts, but we did get to speak with them (or at least leave messages for each other!).
We weren''t without sickness during Christmas: Kara is congested and coughing, so was Allison. I (Chris) have been sick with a cold for a week that seems to have settled in my chest. Eric and Matthew seemed to have escaped it this time. We are looking forward to feeling better!
The kitchen has been set aside during the holiday weekend so we could concentrate on family. We hope to get back to it this week...
Allison had an eventful day today! She has been bugging me to get her hair cut for a long time. Well, today she decided to do it herself...must have been tired of waiting on me. She really whacked a lot off prompting a trip to the beauty shop this afternoon to fix it. It''s not completely fixed ''cause she just plain cut it too short in spots, but it looks cute short!
Matthew was part of the Holy Family Christmas program this evening. He was very excited to have us there to watch his class sing. It was an excellent program and we all enjoyed it! Allison sang along with any song she knew and Kara bounced to the music!
Work is still coming along on the kitchen. We plan on blowing the texture on the walls of the kitchen, hallway and bathroom this Saturday. Will be nice to have that job done. ''Course, we still have a long way to go: cabinets, paint, countertop, flooring, fixtures....we are hoping to have it done by February! Ha! We will see!
The weather has been so extremely nice lately that it hardly seems like the Christmas season. We''ve only had a few days of extreme cold, but nothing major and no snow so far (too bad because we still desparately need the moisture). It''s been easy to decorate for Christmas due to the warm temperatures! Ha!
We had a good Thanksgiving...Eric had to work so the kids and I went to Topeka on our own to visit. We were able to see everyone in Topeka and for the first time, it was a rather leisurely visit instead of rushed...it helps to not have a time-table. Kara was still fighting the brochitis she got over her birthday. I was coming down sick before we left but thought nothing of it. By the time we headed home on Saturday, I was very sick with a sinus infection. Luckily, meds were prescribed on Monday and after 3 weeks, I can finally say I''m on the mend. Matthew''s coughing has finally subsided but his congestion is still on-going. ''Tis the season, I guess.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALLISON ROSE!! Wow! Four years old already! We love you, Sweetheart!
Allison had her "princess party" today...lots of her friends from school came and they had a ball! Eric and I were pretty tired after they left, but it was fun! Afterwards, we all took part in the Home for the Holidays parade. Our float representing the Prince of Peace Parish received 1st place in the church category and 1st place in the theme category (we had a living nativity). The float was lit up and it was so pretty. Allison was a donkey, Kara was an angel, and Matthew was Joseph. We had lots of kids with us and even though it was really cold...we had a great time. Everyone came over to the house afterwards and we had a chili and soup party to warm everyone up. It was a busy day, but we all had a lot of fun!
I got most of the upper cabinets primed in the kitchen this past week. Lots more to do....ugh.
Last Monday, Daddy surprised Mommy with 2 tickets to the KSU game against Texas in Manhattan! With so many people to choose from to go to the game with, Matthew won out because he''d never been to a big football game before. We left pretty early in the day even though kick-off wasn''t until 7 p.m. Got to talk to Aunt Amy Arasmith on the way up (it was so nice to talk with her! Hope you are feeling better today, Amy!). We shopped a bit (Matthew was wanting a new hat and made an excellent purchase with his spending money). Later, we hooked up with Grandpa Dave for supper in Aggiville. Was an electric atmosphere even there! After a great supper with Grandpa, we said good-bye to him and headed for the game. Kick-off temperature was 38 degrees but our seats were low and out of the wind...we were actually taking our coats OFF at one point! All we can say about the game is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Wildcats pulled off an impressive victory against the Longhorns and we were sooooo excited we were there to see it! We left before the 4th quarter was out (Jeff Snodgrass hit his 51-yard fieldgoal about the time we unlocked the car...we didn''t see it, but man, did we hear it!). As a result, we made it home before lots of other people did (we got home at 1:00 a.m. this morning....others didn''t get back to GB until 3:00 a.m. due to traffic!). Over 47,000 people were there! Matthew has been chanting the KSU cheer all day today and has announced he wants to go back again! Matthew and Mommy thanked Daddy more times than we can count...it was an EXCELLENT day!! Thank you, Eric!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Side note: we DID get to see Kara''s picture on the jumbotron at the 3rd quarter! It was shown as promised with dozens of other future K-Staters. However, Mommy''s camera decided it was too cold or something, so we failed to get a picture of it...but we were excited nevertheless! WAY TO GO CATS!!
Had Kara''s 1st birthday party today! Got to see lots of family and friends and Kara got really messy with her cake! It was a slow start as she wasn''t too sure about all of the gooey frosting, but the taste got the better of her and she was soon digging in! It was really nice to see all of the family today...had some that couldn''t come for obvious distance reasons, but they e-mailed or called so we felt they were here anyway. Kara got lots of nice gifts and showed off how well she is walking.
Kara had to go to the doctor on Thursday (Nov. 2) and got diagnosed with bronchitis so she''s been on quite a bit of medicine, but all in all, it didn''t really seem to affect how much fun she was having. Matthew saw the doctor, too, the same day. His allergies have really been acting up so we have him on quite a bit of medicine, too. We are supposed to keep an eye on him and if there is no improvement in the next couple of days, we will have to get more serious. But, he''s a real trooper. Allie seems to be the only one in the house without some sort of sniffles. Although, she knows how good the meds that Matthew and Kara are taking, so she''s doing her best to show me her "sick cough."
Halloween was a great time...the kids went trick-or-treating (minus Kara who''s cough kept her home) and got lots of candy. It was freezing Halloween night, but we had fun anyway. Kids also got some Halloween treats and cards from far away family so they got to celebrate all the way around. Allison was a kitten again (Marie, from the Arisocats movie). Matthew was Spiderman. Kara was a bumblebee for her first Halloween. Daddy, Eric, went to work dressed as Harry Potter and got quite a few giggles from co-workers....they couldn''t believe the likeness!! Ha!
The holiday season is creeping up on us...Thanksgiving will be here before we know it. But, of course, right now, our focus is for Allison''s birthday coming up on the 17th! She''s all ready for her party!
Hope everyone had a great weekend...we think of you all often and wish we all lived a little closer. Have a great week!
Just got the phone call from the babysitter...Kara walked from the couch to their front door! Of course, I missed it, having had to switch my days off but hopefully, Miss K will do it again when we get home tonight so we can get a video out to everyone!
Got to go to Texas (finally!) over Columbus Day weekend...had been a year and a half since we last went down. Lots had changed, but yet lots had stayed the same. Chris and Amy got to take time out from all the kids and spend the day in Wichita Falls. Eric and Greg got to take their break the next day and go flying (Greg is a pilot). They did a fly over of the house while we were all outside...the kids were so excited! Had some trouble with a blown out tire on the way home on the 10th, but otherwise (besides some sickness), the entire trip was extremely relaxing. Both Eric and I agreed we hadn''t been that relaxed in a long time.
Congrats to Jarrod and Holly Haselhorst...they were united in marriage on Saturday (Oct. 14) in Salina. The wedding was beautiful and we were glad that we were there. God Bless you!
Matthew is now toothless in front and working on another front tooth. Had pictures at school yesterday so hopefully, he smiled big enough to show off his "holes!"
Allison must be growing again, because she seems to be falling over her feet more often. Lots of band-aids are being used in our house and she''s pretty banged up on her hands and knees! Mommy promised to paint her fingernails to "pretty up" her hands again! Ha!
Now begins the process of re-doing our kitchen. Eric just about has the cabinet faces finished and I will begin the painting very soon. It''s a never-ending process in our house with fixing up things. We keep finding all sorts of problems with the house, but slowly but surely, I think we are repairing what we can.
We will see some of you this weekend for Aunt Betty''s memorial service...our house is open for whatever the entire weekend, so don''t hesitate to stop by. Just please don''t mind our mess in the kitchen...remember, it''s a work in progress!
Well, I''d better get back to work. Have a great week everyone!
It has been crazy busy around here so it has been quite awhile since this was updated! There are lots of new photos to see so be sure to check those out in the photo albums!
Kara got her first tooth over the weekend!! Woo!Hoo! Or, I guess I should say first 2 teeth. Her two middle, bottom ones came in at the same time. We are sure glad to get over that hurdle as those stubborn teeth were sure causing some problems! She is walking along furniture now. No walking by herself although she has taken a step or two on her own and then promptly sat down. She''s in to everything now that she''s mobile and we really have to watch to be sure that she''s not chewing on anything! She can also clap her hands and stand on her own. She''s very good at bouncing to music while she''s standing, too!
Allison and Matthew have both started school: Matthew is in 2nd grade and doing very well. Allison is in the Star-ters program (a 3 year old preschool) and loves it! It''s so hard to believe that we now have two school-age kids...time passes too fast.
Fred, the beloved dog of Grandpa Neil (Arasmith), passed away over the weekend. Another era gone. I can still hear Grandma Donna hollering at Fred for barking every time the doorbell rang! He was very old and tired so we thank God that he''s not suffering anymore. But, he will still be missed.
The weather here has finally become "fallish." Our tomato crop was a disaster, but that seems to be the cry all over the area. We managed to harvest a lot of green beans and we salvaged our corn after the hail storm (suprisingly). We ate the last of our potatoes the other day...we had one heck of a crop of those. Looking forward to next spring when we can start from scratch and try again. With the cooler weather, Eric and Chris are moving inside to fix up the house again. This time it''s the kitchen. Eric is building new cabinet fronts and a new countertop and paint job is in the works. It''s all moving slow, of course, as we have to wait before each new project for the budgeting to work, but at least it''s getting done. Hoping to have the kitchen finished by spring, if not earlier.
Chris''s Aunt Betty Skinner passed away this month, succumbing to cancer. Her memorial service will be October 21st and we will miss her. Our condolences also go out to her family as well.
Hope everyone is enjoying their fall and we are planning to see as many as possible for the holidays already...it''s gonna be a busy fall!
Kara stood by herself today!! Not for very long, but she did it....wasn''t even paying attention to what she was doing. But, once she realized it, she promptly sat down (hard, but with a grin!). She''s been doing it off and on since then! Somebody get a brick! She''s growing too fast!
Had over 5 1/2 inches of rain yesterday...came down in buckets off and on all day. It was a beautiful sight! We can''t get over, however, how quick those nasty mosquitoes took advantage of this moisture! They are mean and could carry you off if you''re not careful. Anyway, now, of course, it''s humid, but we don''t care...this rain was much needed! Thank you, God! Lots of thanks were given in Church this morning....lots of smiles all around.
We have a first word!! (sort of) Kara knows what "bye-bye" is! She will wave her little hand and say, "dy-dyeee!" It''s just too cute! She has said it to Mommy, Daddy, Grandma Bev, and Godmommy Jennifer (just today)...the floodgates have opened! She''s VERY vocal now....mostly really high pitched screeches, raspberries, tongue waggles, and babbling...it won''t be long before we are hearing her say another word!
Over the weekend, we went to Lawrence, KS to go to Mommy''s cousin''s wedding reception. It was really nice to see all of the family again and everyone was so tickled to see Great-Grandpa Neil in such good health. We also got to see Aunt Amy, Uncle Garrett, and Ema at Grandma Nancy''s house...they made a suprise trip from Utah to Topeka. Garrett has to be in Salina for a month with the Army, so Amy and Ema went to Oklahoma to be with family while he was away from home. It was such a blessing to be able to see them!! Mommy prays all the time that the way and means to go visit them will come up!
On Sunday, we went to Topeka to see Gabriel (our newest nephew!) get dedicated to Christ at Victory Tabernacle. It was exciting to see such a tiny baby and wonderful to celebrate his arrival with everyone! It''s hard to believe that Matthew, Allison, and Kara were all that tiny! Anyway, we enjoyed the visit!
The heat is back with a vengance and it''s sweltering once again...ugh. This mommy is looking forward to a good ''ol Kansas winter! It''s been so oppressive this year..difficult to keep the garden going and keep the flowers blooming. Not much rain...most of it goes around Great Bend like the plague. Oh well.
Gabriel Owen Munoz was born today at 8:31 p.m. at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas to Montel and Sami Munoz (Mommy/Chris''s stepsister). He weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces. 20 1/2 inches long. Nana Nancy says he''s beautiful, looks like Montel, and is perfect!! We can''t wait to see him (his baptism/dedication is this Sunday in Topeka)!! We are also anxious to see pictures of him (and hopefully add them to "Our Nephews!!" photo album)! CONGRATULATIONS MONTEL AND SAMI!!!!!!
