Lots of wicked Kansas weather going around right now...of course the bulk of it has missed Dodge City. Got a lot of rain Friday night, but we are so dry here that today (Sunday) you can't even tell that it's rained recently. Ugh. This evening, we actually had a dust storm...talk about dirty.
Started the official now-we-have-a-color-going-on painting of the house today. After a lot of deliberation and a fast save by the lady at the paint store (thanks! we avoided a really bad decision!), we have settled on a brown color. The kids say that it reminds them of chocolate ice cream (I'd have to say I agree with them). Anyway, it looks terrific with the roof shingles and we are looking forward to seeing the finished product. We will be painting the trim a white color and will replace the front door (paint it reddish), then add shingles (painted reddish again). We've only got one coat on the east side on but it looks better already. We will put 2 coats on the entire house...it's obvious that we need 2 coats. Anyway, we will hopefully be done by Christmas (ha!ha!) so come and see it when it's done! Better yet, grab some paint brushes, some grungy clothes and your appetite and come on down to Dodge for some fun "Painting in the Wind" experience! ;) When we are done, pray for rain so that our garden/flowers don't croak in this wind...but no rain until we are done, k?
The kids, of course, helped...our poor shed has been attacked by tiny paintbrushes. Oh well...it will get painted anyway. I wish I'd had a camera on me, though, today...it was pretty cute.

Well, a long trip to Kansas City, a long trip back, a short trip to Great Bend and Gorham, then a long afternoon for Mom at the Cathedral and we are finally settling down for the night.
Eric is now officially glasses-free! He had lasix on Friday and is, so far, loving the results. His exact words were: "Chris, we have GOT to save money for you. You just HAVE to do this!" After fighting contacts this morning and dirt on my glasses this afternoon, I may take him up on that offer!
Went to Gorham to attend Mass there. Eric was invited to speak at the church about stewardship. It went very well, despite the fact that he was nervous about it being in front of Grandma Agedia! It was nice to be able to see some family there: Pam, Kent, Amber, Steve, Laren, Grandma, and also some old friends.
I sang at the cathedral this afternoon at the confirmation Mass. This year's class was HUGE and Mass took over 1 hour and 40 minutes! OY! It was interesting, but I was glad to be home after such a busy weekend.
The house painting is agonizingly slow. With all of the out of town trips, our house has barely made it passed the scraped stage, resulting in a home that looks like it's never been taken care of. Oh well...it will happen.
I was rather surprised this past week to hear that there are those who seem to feel threatened by my (and Eric's) faith in the Almighty. As annoyed and ticked off as I was at first, I realized that this was a good thing....it means I am no longer hiding behind "society ideals" (or another individual's ideals) and am wearing my faith on my sleeve like a blazing neon sign. It made me feel good to see that someone noticed (even in anger and spitefulness). It makes me feel that if any person feels threatened or disgusted by our faith in Christ, then there must be some underlying voice in THEM who realizes that there just might be something truthful about this Christianity thing. Yahoo! No, our life isn't a bed of roses all of the time, but our faith sure has made things easier. Bring it on.
On another note: caught Matthew squinting at the clock the other day...looks like we are off to the eye doctor. Ugh. It begins. I wonder how early you can have lasix done? Ha!
Allison had her pre-school graduation on Thursday. As ridiculous as Eric and I felt this was, she had a really good time. Found out that Ethan had a preschool graduation, too! Yeah, they look cute and all in their little caps and gowns but do they really GET what is going on? My daughter was through with preschool weeks ago after the kindergarten roundup. She announced she was through with preschool and was now a kindergartner. That was the first thing she asked me after we left the "graduation" ceremony: "Do I go to my new class tomorrow?" It took some talking to get her tears to dry up when I told her she had to wait the whole summer! That little girl is ready (and has been ready) to move on!
Something in the air has gotten Kara's lungs aggravated again. No major infection or anything, just sounds like she's allergic to something and as a result is fighting some minor coughing and a snotty nose (it's clear). Had to have a breathing treatment over the weekend, but that's the only one we've needed. Looks like she's going to have allergies just like Matthew and Mommy. Allison seems to have been blessed with Eric's immune system...thank you God.
On Mother's Day, I was asked to be my niece's (Isabelle Williams) godmother. Her baptism in going to in July, so I'll be headed to Corpus for that. Need to make plans with Garrett and Amy, too for going to San Diego to visit...need to work out times he'll be off work, etc. 'Course, right now, he's still at home recouperating, but hopefully, he'll be back on his feet in no time.

I was able to speak with Garrett tonight and it felt so good to hear his voice. He sounds like he's on the mend. He got home a couple of days ago...still having to use a walker (for balance issues), but things are improving. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed not to be going out to San Diego to help out (it's the "mother hen" in me...almost like I have to see for myself that he's OK), but now I get to look forward to coming out later in the summer when he is up and about and can show me around San Diego. Anyway, it was nice talking to him...I'd been sick for most of the early part of this week (some sort of stomach flu thing), so I didn't get to call him like I wanted to on Sunday. Came home from church Sunday morning feeling like I was going to puke...was Wednesday afternoon before I felt really normal. Anyway, I was glad that I finally was able to talk to my brother and hear from him how well he's doing. Thank you God.
Kara had a success in the toilet this morning! 'Course that was her only success all day, but we will take what we can get at this point!!
Matthew's baseball is in full swing now...he's loving practice and seems to really be picking things up well now.
Allison is helping me around the yard...even mumbles under her breath if people mess up what she's cleaned up (Hmmmmm....wonder where she gets that from?).
Going to GB tomorrow: me to work, Eric and the kids to play (3i Show). In the evening, we will get to see friends and we are all excited! Saturday will be a trip to Wichita for Eric's pre-op appointment for his Lasix surgery that's scheduled for next weekend. Lots going on...but that's our life!

Welcome May!!! I couldn't take it any longer and I raided True Value's garden center and came home with LOTS of plants for my containers and garden beds...Allie helped pick out a lot of the plants (she's very proud of her choices). 'Course with the wind gusting over 60 mph (that's not an exaggeration...no kidding), there isn't much planting I'll be doing today...hopefully this weekend.
Eric heads off to the state Knights of Columbus convention tomorrow morning. He'll be gone until Sunday night. Kinda neat to remember that 2 years ago, we were there as the State Family of the Year. It's still makes us feel so good that we were chosen for that. I wish we all were going so we could hear the speech of this year's family of the year. Some friends of ours got Family of the Year from back in Great Bend (but they didn't get to state level...I wonder if the state board missed them: can't think of a more deserving family, that's for sure). We surrounded ourselves with wonderful people in GB and we sure miss them a ton...yep, I'm going through a bit of withdrawl here. I miss the impromptu get togethers we always had. Oh well, maybe in time we can convice some people here in Dodge to do the same thing...so far most people look at Eric and I like we have some sort of agenda! Hee! Hee!
Allie had kindergarten round-up last week and she's been on cloud '9' since then. She said she isn't in pre-school anymore because she went to kindergarten already and ate strawberries. ;)
Our little kitty has his eyes open finally. With the three kids peeking in on him constantly, I don't believe he will have ANY problems being socialized! Ha!
Well, I'd better get back to laundry, grout sealing, and plant organizing. I need to work for the clinics, too...And the lights just flashed again...that dang wind is knocking out power all over town. Better close.
