Uncle Garrett was sent home from the hospital on April 26th only to be readmitted on April 27th. It looks like he will be there for a few days more. Just a bump in the road (no pun intended, Gary!) and we are praying for the continued knowledge of the doctors. Things are going to take awhile for him to get better. Chris is still awaiting word to find out if they need her in San Diego...we will see.
After a very long weekend on the road, I am happy to be home. Being away from the kids was hard. While I was gone, however, they had a great time with Daddy. Kara got another haircut (courtesy of Allison again). So did the new kitten. A picnic was going on in the middle of the driveway while Daddy scraped paint off of the house. When he turned around, they not only had a sheet to sit on, they had blankets, pillows, juice, crackers, and more. There was lots of hot chocolate had (complete with the required whipped cream!). Some very interested clothing choices were made as well. No shoes were the standard issue attire and by the time I came home yesterday and gave the girls a bath, the bath water was near black! Ha! It was a great time....they got the garden planted while I was gone and Daddy made a lot of progress on the house (scraping the nasty brownish/purple paint off of the window trim). Next comes the sanding of the house and then priming...then PAINT! We can't wait to freshen up the look of this place...it's so drab right now. Hmmm...probably ought to pick out a color, huh? Allie wants pink...or purple. Oy.Comments:Add a comment:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN HASELHORST!!
Attending Ian's 1st birthday party this afternoon! Ian seemed more interested in SHARING his cake than smearing it everywhere, but he had a great time with it anyway! It was nice to see everyone...seems like it's longer and longer between visits.
Eric has been traveling quite a bit with his job recently. But that's good...that means the stewardship message is getting out there and that people are interested in hearing what he has to say. This week, it's Chris's turn to travel...kind of loop this time: Wichita for a conference, Flush/Manhattan for a wedding, and then to Great Bend to work. Sometime after that, Chris plans to fly to California if needed in San Diego to aid in Garrett's recovery.
The end of school is in sight and you can tell the kids (and teachers!) are ready. Matthew's AR reading goal has skyrockted this last 9-weeks (thanks to his pushy parents...the school was not allowing Matthew to check out harder books...not challenging him and not allowing him to challenge himself: at least that's the impression we were getting). He's reading much harder books and passing his AR tests with flying colors (SEE, MATTHEW? WE TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE A GOOD READER!). We are very, very proud of him. Allison seems ready for Kindergarten...acts pretty excited about it sometimes. Kara is in the thrills of potty training although it seems most times she not the least bit interested...it's fun to sit on the potty, but not so much to do anything once she's there! Ha! We are hoping for that A-HA moment to arrive any day now!
Well, enjoy the beautiful spring weather we are having (FINALLY). We will be planting more and more around the yard and garden in the next few weeks....YEA!!Comments:Add a comment:

OK...yesterday Uncle Garrett was in a motorcycle accident in San Diego. He was pretty badly injured (mostly internal injuries). The only "outward" injuries were a cracked rib and some bruising on his ankles. But there is some significant kidney and spleen damage on the inside. Doctors attempted to "fix" things as best as they could yesterday afternoon and now we are in a wait and see game. Considering what he's been through, Garrett is doing extremely well, is in stable condition and is awake and communicating. Grandma Nancy and Granpa Dennis are with him as well, of course, Aunt Amy. Aunt Amy's mom is out there also to help out. Ema is most likely enjoying the grandparent company!
Lots of thanks to Aunt Amy's sister, Traci for getting the word out so quickly to enable Mommy to contact the rest of the family fast. Lots of phone calls back and forth, but we have a pretty good network that gets emergency news out in a hurry. And thank you also to the many prayer groups that have lifted Garrett up in prayer for a complete recovery...even the Mother House in Great Bend (The Dominican Sisters) are praying for him!!
Mommy hopes to go out to California soon to help out in any way if needed. But, none of us want to just overwhelm Garrett, Amy, and Ema with visitors..we are going to try to spread it out so we are more of a help instead of "in-the-way."
GARRETT: YOU GAVE US QUITE A SCARE YESTERDAY, BUT WE ARE SO HAPPY THAT BECAUSE OF YOUR GOOD HEALTH AND STAMINA, YOU APPEAR TO BE DOING SO WELL CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCES. WE LOVE YOU, MISS YOU, AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR COMPLETE RECOVERY (AND THE STORY-TELLING THAT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY COME WITH IT!). KNOW THAT WE ARE THINKING OF YOU ALL OF THE TIME AND THAT WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU CONSTANTLY. PLEASE, PLEASE, GET BETTER SOON!!!!Comments:Add a comment:

WOW! After watching the KU-Memphis Championship game last night, I'm wiped out....and I'm not even a KU fan! But, we had our purple out and we were cheering on the team we beat earlier in the season, screaming for them to send the Tigers home with their tails between their legs. So cool to see the Big 12 get another long-awaited championship! Congrats Hawks! We waved our purple for you...
Finally had a weekend at home this past weekend...we did nothing but spend time together and it was terrific! Even dragged the kids to Garden City to daydream at Home Depot, then stopped at the Santa Fe trail site on the way home. Windier than snot, but fun. Watched the KU-UNC game at the KofC hall until the half then came home to watch the rest of that game...pretty sick of seeing all the red and blue around this weekend, but after awhile, they all blend together (red+blue=purple! :P ) Seriously, we were able to spend the weekend as a family and it was a long-needed time together.
Looks like we are finally getting a bit of rain this week...hopefully it will hang on!
Have a terrific week!Comments:Add a comment:
