Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone. We are now in Advent and the Christmas season. The weather cooperated with us and our traveling back to Topeka so we are thankful for that.
We were able to see several family members over the Thanksgiving holiday...we visited Topeka where we spent time with Grandpa Dave, Nana, Grandpa Neil, Uncle Will (and Sarah), and Uncle Tim...also some of Nana's family. Then we were able to visit at length with Great-grandma Belle, Aunt Martha, Uncle Joe, Crystal and her kids, Tyler, Brent, and Tori. We enjoyed our visit in Topeka...nice and relaxing. On our way home, we stopped in Great Bend (Grandma Bev and Grandpa Dan were "dog-sitting" Penny for us). Aunt Amy, Uncle Greg and the boys had decided to come up for Thanksgiving so we were able to spend a few hours of the afternoon with them before driving home to Dodge. All in all, we had some planned visits, some surprise visits, and lots of laughter. We did run in to a bit of snow on the Interstate yesterday on the way home, but nothing major. We did, of course, miss all of those out of state that we couldn't visit as well as those who were stuck working because of the holiday shopping rush...we look forward to other visits with them soon or Christmas cards to see how everyone is doing.
Chris and Eric are busy with their homemade gifts again. It will be fun sending these things off to the respective recipients and hearing how well (or not!) they go over! Ha! Christmas shopping in our household is about finished...just have some of the adults left to shop for (so get your lists in if you haven't already!). We are thankful we got such an early start this year on shopping.
Well, had better close...have some gift-making to get back to! Enjoy your holiday season...challenge yourself to recognize what is important in your life and rid yourself of what isn't. Donate money to your favorite charity, contribute to your local food bank, or got through all of that "stuff" in your house and donate what you haven't touched in years. Embrace those around you and pray for those you can't reach. Know that we love all of you and think of you often. We are very thankful that we know each and every one of you...Happy Thanksgiving!Comments:Add a comment:

Things are starting to quiet down (at least a little) around the Haselhorst household. Matthew's football season has finished and Mommy's practicing for the cabaret performance is over ('course, now she is practicing for a Christmas performance!). We've FINALLY gotten some sort of routine for school and homework is getting done. Dad and Mom are finally beginning discussions on painting the inside of the house this winter as well as some cosmetic issues the house has that we'd like to fix.
Allison had a birthday party yesterday with most of her friends here at the house. The day proved to be extremely beautiful so the entire party was out in the back yard (much to Mom's relief). All the kids seemed to enjoy themselves completely, the sqeals from the pinata breaking were heart-warming. Allison collapsed in to bed at 8:00 last night, announcing how tired she was...it was a wonderful day. She celebrates her birthday today at school with the extra cupcakes mom made for the party...she went out of the house all smile this morning.
Kara surprised Mom this morning by recognizing her name...we used foam stickers and of course, Mom announced what the letters were in the beginning, but Kara remembered what they were on the paper (she repeatedly pointed out all of the letters: K---A---R---A). It was adorable! Then she picked up a pen and decided to "color" parts of her paper that had no stickers on it...looks like she's going to be a lefty! :)
Matthew figured out to slow down during school last week and his grades showed it. Came home with a 100% on his religion test as well as spelling (spelling wasn't a surprise...he's extremely good at spelling). We discussed how to study last week and it seems to have paid off. After grades were slipping during football, we've taken a break from sports to learn better study habits, with the promise of baseball in the spring. You should have seen his face on Friday when he came home with all of those 'A's...he looked like he'd just accomplished a 500 mile marathon. We are so proud of him.
Mom can't take it anymore and will be decorating for Christmas this week (lights are up on the house already...we took advantage of a windless, warm day to get them up a couple of weeks ago). Matthew has been begging for the tree for 2 weeks now so I think we will get that done. Time to pull out all of the Christmas music!!
Well, hope all of you have a wonderful week. Enjoy today for tomorrow may sideline you.Comments:Kelly: That's funny that you think your Kara will be a lefty...Dan and I think that our Kara will be one as well. She eats, colors and uses her left hand for everything! :)Add a comment:

Kids went trick or treating last night for Halloween...they had a great time and Kara even did her own trick or treating...just took her a bit longer to catch up to the other two! All three looked wonderful and really enjoyed themselves.
Their extra-special treat was to have Grandpa Dave and Nana come for a visit...we went to the zoo during the day and they came and trick or treated with us in the evening. When Kara got tired, they stayed with her at the house and passed out candy to other kids while Eric and I took the older ones back out again. The weather was really beautiful and Eric and I really enjoyed ourselves.
Today, we celebrated Kara's birthday (2 days early). She did such a good job blowing out her own candles this year. She enjoyed opening gifts so much that we had a hard time laying her down for her nap! But, she's down now...I think her eyes were closed before I even got the door shut. This is giving the 2 older ones (and Eric and I) more chance to visit with Grandpa Dave and Nana before they have to leave in an hour or so. It has been a nice, relaxing afternoon. Because they won't be here for Allie's birthday in 2 weeks, Grandpa Dave and Nana were nice enough to include her in Kara's festivities today and she got to open a few gifts of her own for he own birthday.
Weather today is positively gorgeous, K-State's losing the KU-K-state game seems to be the only grumbling around here ('course Grandpa Dave and Nana are pretty tickled about it)...looks like a walk is in the works for later this afternoon and a popcorn evening.
Oh yeah, newsworthy items: Aunt Anna and Uncle Danny are expecting #3 sometime in April or May. And Aunt Sammi and Uncle Montel are also expecting (#2) in May. Good luck to both families and congratulations!!!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend...take care to vote on Tuesday...pray for the proper discernment we all must make in this election. God Bless!Comments:Add a comment:
