The Haselhorst Kidz!! (and cousins!)

June 2007

Well, we are here! Most everything is unpacked and put away...just a few odd and ends now left to organize. Have a ton of pictures to hang, a garage to organize, and more landscaping that I think will get done this summer to do. The kids are settling in and Penny (the dog) is LOVING the fact that she's an indoor dog again...we'll see how long that lasts! Ha! Booger finally ventured out of the garage this morning to go exploring and we haven't seen him since. Hoping he comes home this evening. Anyway, we closed both homes on Monday and everything went smoothly (finally!). Eric's conference in Kentucky was derailed by weather when his plane was cancelled in Wichita. They never made it to Kentucky so had a "mini" conference in Wichita and came home last night.

Got to visit with an old high school friend of Mommy's (Julie (Koch)). She and her husband were south of here in Oklahoma cutting wheat but were rained out. So, she called to come up for a visit as they weren't that far away. We had a nice time, althought we wish it had been longer. Sounds like they will be cutting up around Dodge soon, so we may get to visit again.

Well, better get back to cleaning, organizing, and laundry. Lots of errands to do today...come visit when you can!

Today is the day! We sign papers on the Great Bend home today and the U-Haul is in the driveway!! Looks like we will start packing the truck little by little today (still have some odds and ends to pack up in the house). Tomorrow morning, help will arrive and the big stuff will go on then its off to Dodge! Everyone is looking forward to finally getting settled in the new house and saying goodbye to the old one. We've done a ton of work to this house and I hope the guy who bought it appreciates that. Due to insurance issues, there is now a new roof on the house (& both garages), new guttering all the way around, and it has been treated for termites (that don't exist, but oh well). I got angry enough about the termite thing that our realtor spoke with his bosses and lowered their commission (it covered the majority of the termite cost). It was a fair deal and it was nice to see the realtor and the company finally working for us (they felt we were being delt a raw deal, too). Regardless, we are excited to finally be done with all of this and learn how to live again without migraines, lack of sleep, and constant phone calls about inspections. The new house is set up and ready to go: hopefully, electricity, gas, water, and sewer are getting turned on today. Internet will be connected at the beginning of next week (I'm surprised it's not disconnected yet here in GB, but I'll take advantage of it while it's on!). Please contact me for our new address if I haven't gotten it to you already.

Kara took her first major fall last night. Tripped off the side of the front step and hit the porch railing square in the middle of her nose (between her eyes). She's fine, nothing broken; just a nasty bruise and a tiny slice on her nose. Daddy sat with her with an ice pack, gave her a bath and a dose of ibuprofen...she felt much better after that. On another note, I'm considering cutting her hair for the summer....it's down to the middle of her back and I can't keep it up in ponytails very well....she's too little to hold still for braids. We'll see. I still can't bring myself to cut it!

Matthew and Allie are so excited for the move, it's been hard to keep them quiet for very long! They had a friend (Blake) sleep over last night...one last "party" before we move....it was almost midnight before the giggling stopped! Ha!

Uncle Jason got a new job with Walmart in Pratt so he, Aunt Katie, Hunter, and Ian will be moving "home" next week. Unfortunately, due to the timing, we can't help them unpack (Eric will be out of state at a conference and I'll be unpacking our own house), but we wish them well and we will probably see them next weekend when we come back to GB for a meeting. Pratt isn't all that far away from DC so we might be able to visit more often. They are still looking for a home as most (if not all) homes that used to be available in Pratt have been sold or rented out to Greensburg residents who lost their homes in last month's leveling tornado. So it looks like they are going to live with parents in GB until a home is found.

Well, I'd better close before the Internet shuts off. More updates on the move next week! Have a great weekend!!
