Here is an e-mail that I sent out to everyone today...this sums up why we've been so vauge and scatter-brained lately (sorry to Amy and Danny...I forgot to send birthday cards...forgive me?). Anyway, here's what the e-mail said:

"Hello, Everyone. After a lot of prayer, tears and heartfelt discerning, Eric has made the decision to accept a new position. He has accepted the position to be the Stewardship Director for the Diocese of Dodge City! So, in a nut shell, we will be moving to Dodge City sometime this summer (if not early spring). Eric resigned at Community Bank yesterday and will start employment with the diocese in 2 weeks. The kids and I will be staying in Great Bend until the end of school and until our home is sold. Although we are excited for the new opportunites this job will afford us, we are saddened that we have to leave behind such a good experience here in Great Bend. We have a great house, WONDERFUL friends and a terrific church family! We know, however, that we will be back often as Dodge really isn't that far away (hour and 20 min. or so) and we still have obligations here. I have been blessed with the news that I will be keeping my job with Western KS Surgical: they are going to allow me to work out of my home in Dodge City...we are in the process of preparing for that. So I will be able to stay at home with my kids while still earning somewhat of an income at the same time! And, of course, I still have weddings booked from now until July so that won't change either.

There just aren't enough thank you's we can hand out to everyone here in Great Bend nor do I think any of our thank you's would be sufficient enough to show how grateful we are to everyone here. We will miss Great Bend, but go with the knowledge that we can come back at any time.

    God Bless you all."

I've had a few e-mails back asking how the kids are handling it. Kara, of course, doesn't have a clue. Allison, I don't think she really grasps the idea, although she's acted excited about moving to a new house. Matthew is handling this better than we thought...his main concern is gettting a home in Dodge that we can paint K-State purple. So, all in all, I think the kids are taking this extremely well. Both of the older kids are very excited that Mommy won't be at an office anymore and that I will pick them up from school EVERY DAY (that got a big "YEA!!!" from both of them!).

So now begins the process of getting our home ready for selling: fixing up the last minute things that have needed to get done forever: paint the main garage (inspector will make us do it anyway because of the peeling paint), planting flowers to brighten up the landscape, and paring down belongings to get ready for a garage sale. We've also begun looking online for homes in Dodge...haven't had much luck there, yet.

Weather was stunning today....got up to 82. A bit windy and humid, but beautiful nevertheless. I spent the majority of the day outside planting flowers and mowing...grrrring the whole time that I won't be able to stick around and enjoy the fruits of my gardening labor. Oh well. All of the storms missed us...I think we got two sprinkles total the entire day. Now the cold has moved in...hopefully all the new plants the kids and I planted will make it through the night without too much stress.

Busy weekend coming up: a wedding to sing at, a breakfast fundraiser to attend/help at, a Mass to sing at and play bells....can't wait to fall in front of the TV Sunday night.

Have a great week and a blessed weekend!!

We have a new Haselhorst!!!! Ian (Daniel?) Haselhorst was born yesterday morning in North Dakota to Uncle Jason and Aunt Katie. He was somewhere around 9 pounds but I don't know the time of birth, exact weight, length, etc....Eric and Uncle Jason aren't known for details! Ha! But, we are calling today to get more info....Anyway, we are so happy to welcome Ian into our family!!! Congrats Jason, Katie, and Hunter on Ian's arrival!

Just got word about our nephew Ethan...seems he took a bad spill this morning involving the slipperslide and a toy shovel. A tooth (or 2?) is askew and there is some pretty bad swelling in his throat but he is otherwise fine right now...seemed more upset that he got his shirt messy! We hope that you heal quickly, Ethan!

    Have a great weekend, Everyone!

Matthew celebrated his First Holy Eucharist Sunday, April 15, 2007. After a shaky start to the weekend, the weather cleared up and we had a beautiful day for First Communion. Matthew looked sharp in his new suit got so involved in Mass, he even followed along in the missal...we were so proud of him. It was pretty emotional seeing our first born all grown up at church. It wasn't that long ago when he was just a teeny baby, getting baptized. Had lots of family here to celebrate: Grandma and Grandpa Haselhorst, Uncle Kent and Aunt Pam, Great-Grandma Agedia, Great-Grandma Cecelia, Uncle Greg and Aunt Amy (Ethan and Kaden, too). Thank you to all who sent cards and called who couldn't be here or who were thinking of him. He really loves getting mail and phone calls.

I've posted some pictures of the day...I don't have the ones from church yet...I'll post those later.

First Eucharist seems to have changed Matthew in some way...he has been very serious about church since Sunday, wearing the cross necklace he was given as a gift (don't worry...it's a boy's necklace! Ha!). He took he prayer book to school this morning (Tuesday) so he could use it in school Mass. He's also taken most of his gifts and displayed them in his room. It's nice to see him taking ownership in his own faith and understanding what he's been taught so far. God has blessed us with a reflective child and we thank Him every day for, not only Matthew, but also Allison and Kara.

Again, thank you to all who remembered Matthew on this special day. God Bless all of you!
