Less than a week away from Thanksgiving and we are experiencing a rather surprising snow storm. It was predicted we would only receive about an inch...now it''s been upgraded to a Warning level and we are supposed to get 5-7 inches. It''s cold and slick, but the snow is beautiful and really gets you in the mood for the holidays!
Matthew is almost finished with his first semester of HIGH SCHOOL! Marching band season is basically over (with the band''s only marching obligation left is to march in the Parade of Lights parade next Monday night). It was tough for him (and sometimes us) to deal with the hectic schedule for band. This school is really, really serious and disciplined when it comes to marching band and it shows. Everywhere they went, they received SUPERIOR ratings, making the Pride of Southwest KS one of the best in the STATE. At 181 band members, this was truly a feat to pull off and we are excited that Matthew is a part of this outstanding program. In other news, he took it upon himself to check in to an internship at the National Weather Service office here in Dodge. Hoping something works out for him there. He''s also working on a video ad idea for the Manna House for his Eagle project for Boy Scouts. I can''t being to tell you how proud I am of him.
Allison is breathing a sigh of relief that this year''s school year is MUCH better than last year. She loves her new teacher (as do we) and she is excelling in the classroom with less problems than last year (thank you, Ms. Weishapl!). She is enjoying Dance Cats at school, Girl Scouts, and her horse therapy lessons. We are very proud at how far she has come with all of her therapy with her PDDNOS and ADHD...all done without medications! YAY! We are looking forward to the future of this very bright, wonderful, talented girl!
Kara is loving 2nd grade and is a stellar student (given more opportunity to excel due to her stellar teacher Mrs. Sanchez!). This formerly shy girl has turned in to quite the social butterfly and spends a lot of time hanging out with her friends and having them over to play. Girl Scouts and Dance Cats are her activities and she recently added basketball to the mix through the YMCA. She''s made baskets in every game she''s played in...Kara is turning into quite the athlete!
Eric''s business (Rockin'' H Farm Toys) is keeping him busy. He''s always looking for new ways to keep the products exciting and in the front of customer''s minds. He''s still working for the Diocese as the stewardship director...it appears the speaking circuit for that is opening back up again so he''s been heading out to various parishes to speak at their Masses which is nice.
Chris left the community college for an entirely new career change in August. She is now the Group Sales and Convention Coordinator for the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau. While not entirely certain where this job will take her, it''s been an eye-opening experience at just how much goes on in Dodge City that she never knew about. The tourism industry is an amazing industry that brings millions of revenue to the State of Kansas and it is truly an exciting time to be a part of it.
So there you are...we are coming up on the end of 2013 with a high school bandie, a tween, and a basketball athlete. Who would have thought we''d have this much diversity in our own family! Ha! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!!
