School has started, the heat has finally broken, and the last camping trip of the summer is over. The kids are really excited to be back in school...Matthew is in 6th grade, Allie is in 2nd grade, and Kara is in Pre-K. Mommy has begun helping out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons for about 3 hours at the school in the special education program...
Eric''s stewardship day was another success (last Saturday in August) and now he gets to start planning for next year''s!
Labor Day weekend had us at Lake Murray in Oklahoma with the Myers clan...we celebrated Eric''s birthday there, swam, hiked, and lounged around. It was a really nice weekend. On our way home, we were able to stop in OKC for lunch with Uncle Garrett and Ema (Amy wasn''t feeling well)...it was soooo nice to be able to see them, even if it was only for a short time. We are looking forward to later in the year when we can visit longer but we are giving them room to get settled first. The move from San Diego was a long one but I hope that they get settled in OKC soon so they are comfortable.
The heat has finally broken here in KS...no more 110! As a result, the garden is finally coming back to life as is many of the flowers in the yard. Our grape crop is a complete loss...between hail and hungry robins...no jelly this year. *sigh* The bell peppers are doing very well, we had a decent crop of carrots and corn. Potato harvest was about half of normal (not sure why). The roma tomatoes are now producing like crazy as are the green beans. Allie planted some squash seeds...a little late, but she''s excited to see what comes out of the little plant! I''ve been busy processing what does come out of the garden for the freezer...blanching the carrots and beans, chopping up the peppers...we should have a full freezer by October.
Well, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend and that you are enjoying your start to the fall season...cooler weather is coming! Yay!
