Well, Grandpa Dave, Allison, and me (Chris) went to Corpus Christi this weekend for Isabelle''s baptism. The trip was wonderful...we were able to see many folks we hadn''t seen in a really long time and Isabelle is an absolute doll!! It was an honor to be asked to be her godmother, too. Left Monday morning (right before Hurricane Dolly moved in!)...On our way home, Grandpa Dave dropped Allie and I off in Dallas as we picked up a new car we''d bought (''04 Pontiac Grand Prix)...proud to say that no loan was taken out for this one...we''ve saved a long time and it felt good to drive away, knowing we OWN it already. Thanks Dave Ramsey... ;) Stopped in Bowie, TX for an overnight stay at Uncle Greg''s and Aunt Amy''s house. Allie and I drove home today...we are glad to be home: a little over 35 hours in the car this weekend and we are ready for our own beds. Now it''s back to work and gear up for the next trip (San Diego in a few weeks with Matthew!!). Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer (stay cool...the heat has hit!).
Afternoon, Everyone! Our big news today as that Matthew received his first pair of glasses...he picked them out (they''re green) and was pretty excited to get them (he told me the eye doctor was really cool). Anyway...pics are in his album...have a look. I think he looks pretty good!
Hope everyone had a safe holiday yesterday. We went to a friend''s BBQ/parade yesterday morning...the kids decorated their bikes and had a blast. Then it was the swimming poool for the afternoon for the two older ones. Fireworks at home and then to the big show not too far from our house (we walked). Even Kara went this year and aside from being really tired and getting frustrated with her brother and her chair, she really loved the fireworks displays. She said lots of, "oh, pretty," and "Look, Mommy! Firecrackers!" The noise didn''t bother her at all!
Well, today, we continue our holiday weekend by heading to Schoenchoen, KS for the Haselhorst family reunion and to Hays to pick up a new front door at home depot. The traveling continues!
I think we''ve all recovered from our lake trip this past weekend to Canton Lake in Oklahoma. Eric and I were amazed at how smoothly the whole weekend went and how much fun we really did have! It was nice to be able to spend a little time with Amy around her birthday, too. Greg and Amy bought a pontoon boat so we were with them on it''s maiden voyage. As novice boaters, we''ve discovered that there is a certain black button you don''t want to push when unloading your boat into the water...doing that can end up with you in the rocks, with a dead motor, with good samaratins standing in the water keeping your boat from getting torn up while trying not to laugh at your inexperience. We''ve also discovered that when you aren''t experienced boaters, you shouldn''t try to unload and load a boat when the water is REALLY choppy and the wind is high. The best thing we learned was that you shouldn''t try to get on the boat where there is a swinging door and no ladder: it lands you in the ER getting your wedding ring cut off and receiving stitches (Greg''s OK!). Mommy learned that getting comfortable with the boat requires making sure that all towels are accounted for...ones that aren''t fly off the boat at high speeds and sink, requiring an immediate trip to the store when you get home to replace them (Allison made sure of that). All good things to learn quickly and get out of the way...we are looking forward to boating again with Amy and Greg, sooner than later...and with less anxious moments! Ha!
And our friend John might like to know that we set up and tore down our tent like pros this time! No problems at all and we only had to refold it once...Ha! Our experience with tents has us cruising Craig''s list, however, for a good pop-up camper. Mommy has experience with those (grew up with one) and is excited at the prospect of getting one. Daddy, however, has gotten a taste of a jet-ski (nice people let him have a couple of go''s at the lake this weekend)...so he''s currently scouring the Internet for one of those.
All in all, we came home happy, content, albeit a bit sunburned. We are anxious to get back to a lake SOON to camp again, we had so much fun. Unfortunately, it will be a couple of weeks before we can do that...oh well. We are already planning it, though...I can''t wait!
Other news: getting ready to travel to Corpus Christi over my birthday for my niece''s baptism. Going to travel with my dad (I think) and it should be fun. Matthew and I are gearing up for our 28 hour train ride from Dodge City to San Diego in August to visit Aunt Amy, Uncle Gary, and Ema...tickets are bought and we are so excited at the expectation of seeing a lot of cool things on the train.
Enjoy the holiday weekend and stay safe! Happy 4th!
