School is out and the kids are very happy about that....everyone had excellent grades by the end of the year and all three kids are moving on to the next grades. Matthew will be in 6th grade, Allie in 2nd, and Kara will be in Pre-K.
Now starts the busy summer activities. Matthew just received word today that he has been accepted as a volunteer at the local library for the summer. He will also be participating in percussion lessons at the public school. Regarding sports, he begins official swim team practices next Tuesday. His first meet is next weekend. He is really working hard on his strokes as well as his turns and wall touches. We are very proud of him.
Allison will be engrossed in gymnastics this summer. She is excited for Summer Blast this week and next week....her regular classes will start next week. She had her first exhibition last night and really shined. Her independence shows through at every element....she refused the hand of the spotter on the beam, got excited during some jumps and fell off...after the crowd gasped, she jumped up, yelled, "I''m alright!" and got back in line in a fit of giggles....never a dull moment with Allie! LOL!
Kara LOVED the exhibition last night and has announced she wants to be in gymnastics...looks like we will be signing her up in the fall (summer enrollment is over).
Summer also brings vacations and camping trips...we just returned from our first camping trip: our first vacation as a family. We explored the Sand Dunes of Alamosa, Colorado (HIGHLY recommend!), took off for Southwest Colorado and explored the cliff dwelling ruins of Mesa Verde (VERY cool!), drove through extremely beautiful country in Northern New Mexico, discovered a very windy Rio Grande Gorge in Taos, checked out some goofy housing west of Taos (called Earthships), ate at the High Country Restaurant in Chamas, NM, had a small snowball fight at 10,000 feet in New Mexico, explored the canyons of the Cimmaron River, and arrived home yesterday afternoon. We had a wonderful time! Today brings all of the joys of camper ownership...time to clean everything out now. LOL!
We arrived home to some sad news...Sacred Heart School''s Head Teacher, Bonnie Schuette, passed away Sunday night after an almost 2 year battle with cancer. She was a remarkable lady, loved by all of the students. She will be greatly missed, but SHCS is blessed to have had her within its walls for many, many years. Our prayers are with her family.
Memorial Day is coming so this weekend, we are on the road again to visit family for a short 2 days. Then Memorial Day, Eric and Matthew will be distributing flags for the Boy Scouts and we will all have a BBQ with friends in the evening.
Great Grandma Belle will be laid to rest on May 7th, 2010 in Great Bend at 2 pm. Pastor Jeff Slater will be officiating (with Mr. Ed Dowd). We are praying for a beautiful day full of prayer and thanksgiving for Grandma''s full life. She is missed...Grant eternal rest to her oh, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
